Kinks To Stage Concert Hereby Bruce Eaton The Hobart and William Smith Weekends Committee will present its final concert of the term December 5 at 4 p.m., in Bristol Gym Appearing live in concert for what promises to be one of the finest concerts ever wit-social commentary in his lyrics. About this time, sadly enough, although these changes endeared them to European audiences, their popularityKINKSnessed on this campus will be The Kinks, along with Snake Drive.The Kinks, as older readers might recall, have been with us from the very beginning. “You Really Got Me,* their first hit single, was followed by a long line of enormously successful records including “All Day and All of the Night,* “Tired of Waiting/ ‘Who 11 Be the Next in Line/ “Lazy Afternoon,* and “Well Respected Man,*“Well Respected Man* marked the beginning of songwriter Ray Davies' trend toward satiricaldropped in the U.S. Their nexttwo albums, although meeting with very little success in America, revealed an important change in Ray’s writing style: he moved from satire to observing everyday life with more than a little sympathy for the common man.The release of “Arthur,* from which the single “Victoria* was taken, in August of 1969, was just what was needed. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “ ... the Best British Album of 1969/it brought The Kinks back into the spotlight. “Arthur,* the score for a BritishTV presentation, revealed the band in its finest form. Rolling Stone called the album “a masterpiece on every level: Ray Davies’ finest hour, the Kinks’ supreme achievement. *“Arthur* marked the beginning of a new Kinks* era, “Lola/ their biggest chart single in years, was released in June of 1970 and sold tremendously here and abroad, despite its controversial content. “Lola* was followed by another album. “Lola vs. Powerman and the Money-go-round, Part 1* is a song cycle about the music business and a perfect synthesis of their early rock’n’roll and their later more sophisticated style. A new album will be released shortly.The current Kinks* line-up is: Ray Davies, group leader, song writer, and rhythm guitarist; Dave Davies, lead guitar; Mick Avory, drums; Johnny Dalton, bass; and John Gosling, keyboards.Tickets are $2.00 advance sale to Hobart and William Smith students with student I.D.’s Monday, November 29 through Friday, December 4. They will be on sale in Gulick and Comstock dining halls during dinner hours and in the Little Theater Box Office (Coxe Hall) 11 a. m, to 2 p.m. daily. General admission will be $3.00 at the door.We have been asked by The Kinks to request that no pictures be taken of the performance. All cameras will be confiscated at the door.
