TOGreater Facilities Needed Says the PresidentAn addition by Indiana university to its present facilities in Lake county constructed either as an ad-diF to the existing building in East Chicago or elsewhere in toe Calumet district was announced by President Herman B. Wells as a part of the university’s postwar development program.The development program which has been formulated by the university's board o£ trustees, headed by Judge Ora L. Wildermuth, of Gary, includes a larger and stronger faculty, an expanded curriculum, and new buildings to be constructed over a ten-year pi iod - and to involve a total expenditure of approximately $25,00(J,000.Adopt a ResolutionThe I. TJ-. trustees in a formal resolution made public by President Wells have called on the university’s academic officers to give careful attention to employment of skilled teachers and scholars of distinction and to develop new courses of study jn keeping with war experience and the state'; rapid economic progress.The building program proposed will cover a ten-year period and will be financed by individual gifts, issuance of bonds to he retired from earnings, and legislative grants.The need for expansion of facilities in Lake county is foreseen by the university to meet the growing demand for instructional and other services in the area.Established in 1932The Calumet center of the university’s Extension division was established in 1932 to give a fuller program of university extension service to the northern pan of the state, not only to students who are working toward a college degree but also to adults who may profit by the courses as non-credit students. More than 11.non persons have taken advantage of the opportunity to continue their educational training through the Center since its estahl.shment.H. W. Norman, executive secretary of the I. V. center, announced recently a registration of 1.nti4 Calumet region students this semester. an increase of 20 percent over last fall.
