Obituary.Mrs. Polly M. Pettingill was born in Center Sandwich, H., Nov. 1, • 1818, and died Oct. 20,.1896. .Mrs. PettinglU*8 father and grandfather, Elijah and Jedediah Skinner,j were earnest and devoted Methodists and were, among the most active j members in organizing the M. E. church of this place. Their home was ever a home to the preacher and a place for religious services. Brought up “in the nurture and admouitiou of the Lord,” and from, their infancy under the influence of Christian song, prayer and testimony, the children of that home early experienced Christ’s saving power. Sister Pettengill has repeatedly said that she could not re-: call the time when she did not love j Jesus. She was baptized at the age j of eleven, and soon jitter was received mto'the cburch of“whicli Khc contin-fued a faithful and worthy member: for sixty-six years.She was blessed with a bright and \ cheerful disposition, which won peo- j pie to her and made it a delight Wj both old and young to be in her soci-1 ety. Her sisters of the \V. C. T. (j. loved to spend with her a part of the anniversary of her birthday, and her pastor always found it an inspiration to talk and pray with her. God had given to her, as to others of the family, the gift of song in more than ordinary measure of sweetness and power, and this gift she ever used for £1 is glory.On the 27th of Nov., 1851, she was united in marriage with IJosea Pettengill, to whom she bore nve children. The husband and two of the children passed away years before the final summons came to her. The love and care of the children still spared to her brought i.er through several severe sicknesses, but at last all the love and care were unavailing, and the mother went out from the earthly home to be forever with the Lord. s.
