A. MARTIN.The foregoing affidavit was subscribed and sworn to before me, this 4tb day of November, 1847.J. fl. McComiACK, j. P, [l, s.]For the People's Friend.I find in the last No. of I he 4*Peoplo1fl Press” published nl Crawfordsville, an article purporting lo give the particulars of the recent difficulty at my ha use between Mr. Ezekiel McDonald and the Hon. £, A. Hannegan. Tho siaiements of tho editor’s informant, as well as the construction that would nnmrally bo placed on my conduct on that occasion (from these statements,) makes it necebS«fy)fof me to reply to the article. As far as tho assault was concerned, I know nothing, as I was in the dining room, and did not come in until after Mr. Hannegan had left. As soon as 1 returned and was informed that Mr. JIannegan bad gone to arm himself, I informed McDonald of the fact, and shat for the credit of the house, his safety, and ihe benefit of all concerned, he must lenvo the house immediately. When he was about to comply wiih my request, and got as far ns (he hack sitting room on his way to the ban*, }!r. Iianns-gan entered the bar room with bis gnn. Knowing I ha I McDonald could not make Ids escape that way, t secreted him in tho upper rooms until a iiorso was procuredt and he piade his escape by the back way. My only object in making this statement is to remove the impression (ihal would otherwise be natural, that I approved tlr* conduct of McDonald. To* do this I should stand alone, as tbovpeoplo of Cov-^ iugton, including t?ie personal friends and relatives of McDonald, unite in reprehending it. P. B. BROWN.
