The course of Mr. Hannegan from first to last was lo prevent if possible any excitement or difficulty growing out of executing the order of the Engineer in opening ihe lock and when the wasle-wier hoard was raised, some of the company raised a shoal, and Mr, flannegan immedmbely requested them to be sileni, as he said it might cause some excitement that might lead to difficulty. During the time that constable McCormack had a canal boat captain in custody, by the name of Robinson, John McManomy wa3 in the act of striking him and Mr. Dnnitcgnir ne the imineni peril of being struck himself by McManomy,who was veiy much enraged at the time, interposed and prevented McMauomy from striking him.WILLIAM H.
