FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR MRS. MECUMGrace Boyles Mecum died at her home southeast of Bowen Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 10:15 a. m. She was j born near Huntsville, 111. Jan. 22, 1897 and was married to Loren MecumFeb. 26, 1918. jMrs. Mecum joined the Methodist Episcopal church of Elm Grove inearly youth and has continued not only loyal but very active. For years she was superintendent of the Cradle Roll and a teacher in the Primary department of the Bowen Methodist church to which she brought her membership when she married.Surviving are the husband and two children, Elden and Eileen, her father, J. H. Boyles, five sisters, Mary Etta Boyles of Washington, D. C., I Mrs. John Seatron of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Merle Adams of Sparrows Point, Md., Mrs. Chas. Paxton, Golden 111., and Cora Boyles, Cleveland, Ohio, three brothers, Rolla and Kelly, of Golden and Bernard Boyles of Sutter. One brother, James, died in 1918. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services were conducted j Saturday afternoon from the Bowen Methodist church with the pastor, Rev. C. J. Lotz in charge. Burial was I in Bowen cemetery.The following is a poem which Mrs. Mecum had clipped and especially liked:Had I But One DayHad I but one day of my life remainingThen should I see this generous world I live—The dawn, the noon, the glorious color . stainingThe western sky, the stars serene above,With clearer eye than ever I employ, Then should I listen with acuter ear And smell and taste and touch with sharper joy;Then would so many things be newly dear.Had I but one day of life yet to live, I should be much more eager to forgive,And sympathize and help and love and prayBefore the numbered hours had hur-ried past.
