Does that Christmas present problem have been baffled again this season? Here’s a suggestion: How about a portable typewriter? Wouldn't your wife, sweetheart or your son or daughter in school appreciate such a gift? There are a thousand and-one uses for a portable in the home and in school work and you can rest assured that this is one gift which would be thoroughly appreciated and one which will last for years. One of the best portables on the market today is the improved Co rona with the floating shift. This machine, which features a seven point touch control, can be used for almost any purpose that a standard can. One of the most unusual develop ments in typewriting is the new Corona system for teaching young sters the touch system. It was de veloped through years of study, and has to be seen to be appreciated. If you woul d like to have your child learn the touch system at an early age you should see this new Corona feature. Through a system of animal characters on the keys and similar characters on finger rings, young children may learn the touch sys tem as they play. Its lessons for the youngsters are combined in child verses certain to hold their attention. The system was developed to help children express their thoughts clearly. The typewriter, research has shown, is a simple and effec tive device for children’s spon taneous expression. Because of its mechanical construction the child can make perfectly legible impres sions by tapping keys. Thoughts may be expressed and messages written clearly. The problem of legibility has been eliminated. Once the keyboard has been learn ed, the child can begin to write. The Keller Keyboard is artistic. The child is fascinated by it; he observes it carefully and _ thus learns it quickly. Accordingly the child is motivated to read, write and spell. In the past there has been no formal training for the manipula tion of the keyboard by young children. The trial and _ error method has been used. The plan of this manual directs the child to the correct use of the typewriter through simple but forceful learn ing procedures. The method is fas cinating and dynamic because the child sees its use and is interest ed in outcomes so obviously con nected with it.
