Investigations of Robert O. Thompson Reveals Bodies of 58 Union Fighters Interred in Good will Cemetery Former Supervisor Robert O. Thomp son, of the town of Hamptonburgh, takes great interest in historical matters, especially those pertaining to Orange county and his latest investiga tions have resulted in the discovery of the fact that 68 soldiers of the Amer ican Revolution were buried in Good will churchyard at Montgomery. In trying to find in the old churchyard the graves of two great-great-grandfathers, Robert Hunter and Nathaniel Hill, the former having four sons and the latter two, who served in the Revolution Mr. Thompson became convinced that many soldiers of the Revolution were buried there, and a short time ago he and Alexander Begg made a complete and thorough search of the church yard, with the result that they found a total of 58. Nine of these were enrolled in the militia of 1738; two were Colonial soldiers; one, who died in 1743, was an ensign; one a Revolution ary Judge of the Court of Common Meal; and one a Provincial Congress man. In making this search all records have been checked up, with the aid of “New York in the Revolution,” and “Ruttenger’s Histories of Orange County and New Windsor.” It is not believed there is a country church yard anywhere in the United States in which #0 many soldiers of the Revo lution He buried.
