LAPORTE, Ind., Nov. 14-—The-dead: THOMAS COLE, killed instancy.4 The injured:WADE CODE, scalded and head lacerated. .HAROLD COLE, head cut and body bruised.GEORGE BOWEN, arm a mangled. THOMAS COIU bruised about body and head.1 Thomas Cole was Instantly killed and * Wade Cole, George Bowen, Harold Cole and Thomas Coll were terribly Injured by a boiler explosion on the farm of Thomas Cole at Kankakee this morning. a Yesterday the corn shredder belonging 0 to Bunton Bros., which 1* operated by 9 steam, was set In position on the Ctfe farm close to the Lake Erie Railroad on e the Kankakee river and was run until y evening. This morning it was started earlyi with George Bowen as engineer. Thomas Coll as helper, and Thomas Colo nnri his two sons, with a team, also helping in the work.At about 9:30 o’clock, without a moment's warning, and while all were gathered at the machine, the boiler exploded with such terrific force that It was lifted entirely over the shredder and carried Into the barnyard near by. Coll wub hurled a hundred feet Into the air and came down a considerable distance away, only slightly Jarred and bruised, but with his boots torn from his feet. He ran to the assistance of the others, and neighbors. hearing the unuBual nalse, were soon on hand. Thomas Cole o body lay near the muchtno. It was fearfully mangled and the head was tom off. His two Bonn, one aged sixteen years and the other fourteen, wcro lying close by, tin-conscious. one close enough to the engine to receive the scalding atenra. Tho engineer was lying near his post of duty, apparently dead. All were badly lacerated and bruised. The team of horses which had been driven up to the machine with a load lay lorn and bleeding on the ground, one dead and tho other helplessly wounded.
