NICK TOKAR Our beloved Uncle Nick passed away very peacefully on November 9, 2015 with family at his side after a recent decline in health. He had enjoyed a good quality of life at St. Paul's Home for 18 plus years. The staff of St. Paul's showed much care and compassion for Uncle over the years, but especially so to him and his family during his final days. Uncle Nick did so well for so long despite his life long physical challenges. His life is a testament to faith and determination. Uncle Nick was born at Keld on a homestead situated along Riding Mountain National Park. He was one of ten children born to Michael and Katherine Tokar: John, Peter (Nellie), Mary (Metro Wosowich), Anne (Nick Michaleski), Nellie (Mike Matlashewski), Teenie (Fred Pich), Bessie (Matt Sadowski), Tony (Jean), Uncle Nick and Alice. Despite his own challenges, Uncle Nick outlived all of his siblings and in-laws. He is survived by his niece Joanne Tokar, nephew Dennis (cont’d next column) Tokar (Marjorie) and their sons Jordan (Robby) and Cory. Marjorie was his bonus niece. Also left to mourn are nephews and their families including Frank Michaleski (Olive), Tony Madashshewski (Wanda), Russell Pich (Gladys) and Tony Wosowich. Uncle's St. Paul's family including Fr. Oleg, Sister Jean, staff, residents and volunteers will miss his sunny disposition and determined inde pendence. The Tokar family would especially like to thank the St. Paul's family for all the kind nesses shown to Uncle over the years and especially during his recent illness. This will not be forgotten. Special thanks goes to the memory of Mary and Joe Cheturbok (now deceased) who kept a watchful and helpful eye on Uncle Nick during his thirty plus years as a lodger in their home. Special thanks also goes to Eileen and Tony Semchyshyn for the countless rides they pro vided when Uncle was their neighbour as well as to their ongoing care, kindness and concern shown right until the end to Uncle Nick. Uncle Nick was a deeply re ligious man both in his time of living and dying. He faithfully attended Mass until recently. Uncle Nick also had a sense of humour and a big smile. He loved tea and a good meal, daily (cont’d next column) exercises, musical events, being out in the sun and car rides to find horses- he loved horses. A special celebration was held last year to mark Uncle's 100th Birthday. He was thrilled by it all and it was a wonderful heartfelt occasion for family and friends. Uncle Nick was truly celebrated for who he was. Prayers were offered on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. from Sneath- Strilchuk Funeral Chapel in Dauphin.
