Is LHS Ready To Meet Duncan? To football season Will end for Lawton High School E tomorrow evening when Don Jimerson takes his Wolverines to Duncan. Whether the year ends on a happy or sad note depends primarily on the players. Jimerson’s youngsters suffered a natural letdown last week when they were defeated by Eisenhower, 15-22. Now they must snap out of the doldrums and eet, ready for another tough game, or they will finish the season the same way it began. LHS was not exactly a ball of fire during the first half of the season. The Wolverines lost three of their first four games, salvaging a 15-13 tie with Berger on the fourth start. Then they began to sell. They defeated Ada, 20-14, on that last-play touchdown pass fom Bruce Johnson , Danny Herdaway, and everything changed for the otter. Five straight victories were on the LAS record be fore Jimerson’s troops ran into Hisenhower. They even had a chance to tie for the Boomer Conference championship before the Eagles messed up those plans. Now they face the prospect of finishing a dismal fifth unless they are fully prepared to do battle at Dun can. It's A Big Game For LHS A FEW years ago, it was simple to get ready for the Demons. Lawton High and Duncan have been big rivals ever since the Boamer went into op eation, and their meeting on the last day of every season has always been a helmet-splitter. Eisenhower's entrance into the Boamer has chang ed this situation. The cross-town rivalry takes preced ence over the intercity battle. The meeting with Duncan is still a big one on the LHS schedule, but it doesn’t have the same meaning that it had two years ago. Nevertheless, LHS could use te victory for a a couple of reasons. In the first place, a loss would dump the Wolverines to fifth in the Boomer, LHS has not finished that low in many years, and this club certainly doesn’t want to set a bad example. The overall record is another case in pont, LHS has not dipped to the .300 level in more than 10 years, but that’s where the Wolverines will wind up if tey lose Friday. If LHS isn’t ready to play, itould be a long night, Duncan is on the upswing under Coach Walt Presley, and the Demons want the victory to gain a share of second place in the Boomer. Despite Lawton High's feelings, Duncan will definite ly be ready to go, LHS remains as the No. L1 enemy on the Demon schedule, and a win over their old rival makes a Duncan season complete. Duncan Has Dandy Backs EMON teams with less ability than Presley’s cur rent crew have given LHS plenty of trouble in the past. A club with the potential of this 1968 unit is expected to be double-tough. Duncan has a big, mobile line that has opened huge holes for the backs to run through. And the backs have the ability to scoot when they get those openings. The right half, Melvin Sanders, possesses good speed and breakaway ability. Fullack Danny Foreman is a powerful runner who often drags tacklers an extra two or three yards. Halfback Harold Colbert is twice as dangerous as Sanders and Foreman because he has speed and power. He is also a fine receiver, as are Sanders and ends Gary McCormick and Lee Borien. Quarterback David Davis also poses a double threat. He is a good runner, and he throws the ball well despite an unorthodox delivery. He is also one of the state's premier punters. The Duncan defense has Ieaker on occasion, especi ally in the secondary. LAS is expected to test this weakness when Johnson drops back to throw to Hard away, Vernon Bentley, Arthur Walker, Jim McDougle or John Fremin. It promises to be a fine ball game.
