Capt. E. B. Waples..Captain Edward B. Waples, of Onancock, died suddenly Friday ihorning, 8th., from a clot of blood on the brain caused by hardening of the arteries. He was eighty-seven years old the 17th of last January.Captain Waples was one of the best known men in this county and his name was the syfionym for truthfulness and honor. He was one of the charter members of the Onancock Baptist Church and nothing but sickness kept him from service. He attended church twice the Sunday before he died. Living and dying he revealed the spirit of his Master and in his service and in his abiding influence lie made more luminous the lovely meaning of a Christian life.Always active, he rode a bicycle until three years ago, when he fell and hurt himself quite seriously.A life long Democrat, he was particularly interested in the recent election, and was one of the first at the polls November 6th.Captain Waples was a real son of the Revolution, his father, Lieutenant Samuel Waphis, having done valiant service in the cause of freedom. At the Virginia State Convention, Daughters of the Revolution, which convened at Onancock, October 8th, the Captain was the guest of honor at all the meetings.He married twice—first,Miss Sarah Finney, then Miss Agnes West, who survives him. He is also survived by five sons—Captain Samuel T., John S. and E. B. Waples, of Onancock, pfennings Wise Waples, of Cape Charles, and Charles S. Waples, of Philadelphia.Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday morning at eleven o’clock, by Rev. L. M. Ritter. assisted by Rev. Jno. W. Hundley and Rev. R. Finley Gayle, of the Methodist Church. To fulfill a promise made several years ago Rev. J. W. Hundley, of Pocomoke, came to Onancock to preach the funeral sermon. The interment was in the Onancock cemetery.»;As a tribute of respect to Captain Waples the Sunday morning services were dispensed with in all of the churches of the town.The pallbearers were: Active—T.
