Osup dup Tun, Vou. MT IXVANTRY, Marletia Ga, Oct. 29, 1964 Eptrons Faerrogrr Journal:—Wishing to give you an idea how the traveling has been in this country for the past month, T will give youn faw ties of strip T made in company with five of these Sams soldiers from Chattanooga to this plane. I left Chat tanooga in company with Lieut, Col. Van Buskirk Lieut, WHHL DB, Mayer, Capt. Nel son, and Lieut, Prostal of this Regiment and Ligut Newton of the @d N, Y, Cavalry, on the morning of the @tc, at G'clock all pack ed down snugly in an old cattle car. Un fortunately for us we left in such a hurry that we forgot tully in a supply of food and as that was scarcer than gold dollars we got very hungry. Late in the evening the Col, found 9 negro woman who gave him a few loaves of bread which we ate in short me tre and smacked our Ips for more, 'She Col, says the woman was very pretty. I did not see her so I can't vouch for her beauty. That night at 9 we brought up at Tatton and had to leave our car and look for shelter elsewhere. Well after fueling around through the dark awhile we found no house with three beds where we could rest our wearied limbo but could get no supper, the family having nothing to eat in the house. In the morning it was the same way, but a hungry man is desperate and we had lots of brass so we made a raid on a commissary who by the way was a very clever fellow and got hardtack and coffee enough for two meals that day. In the eve ning some of the scouts gave us some Sweet Potatoes which answered for break fast. After breakfast we chartered an old cart with a small mule and a big horse to haul our baggage and we took foot and Walker's line through rain and mud for Ti tan a distance of ten miles. When we arrived there the old gent only asked us forty-five dollars for hauling our baggage. We could'nt see the forty-Ave dollars but gave him eleven dollars and that was about ten dollars more than his team was worth. There we could find neither house to get in or anything to eat. I saw a good Union lady who told me we could get rooms at a certain house but we had been there and were told they were all full. She said they were ceccsh and had no one in their house. That was enough for us. We went for the house, found no beds, but a love room with a good tra place, so we laid on the floor that night, Jeft sa” the morning in a govern ment wagon for Revaca without any break fast. About noon that day we got a fun were loaves of bread, took the cure, and Wire Obes more on OUT way rejoicing. That day we got as far as Calhoun where we get two good meals and a good bed. Let that place on Saturday morning and got to the Regiment the satay day where we had the pleasure of taking supper with all the officers of the $2d at the Sherman house Which is under the supervision of our worthy friend Capt. J. M. Schammerhorn who has always when in camp an abund ffy = 7 usbbats,
