Ma nitoou'oc Rapid*.—This town is situated on the Mnnitnowoc river, (which emp. ties into Lake Michigan on iho western side*) two miles and n half above tho mouth of the river* nt the head of steamboat navigation. Mnnitoowoc, with the exception of the Milwaukee, is tho largest river discharging itself into the lake, on the west— situated 34 miles south of Green Bay, and about 00 north of Milwaukee—the first harbor after leaving Mackinaw. On the rapids there is an immense watcr-|»ower, and a large double saw.mill has been erec. ted by the proprietors, sawing from four to ten thousand feet per day. Large qtmnfi-ties of pine are found on the banks of tho river. All tlio adjacent land is valuable lor farming purposes, and wlicre not cov-t red with pino, has a •fine growth of beech, birch, sugar maple, oak, basswood* ash c. indicative of a good soil. There is a very good natural harbor at the mouth of the river, tho water on tho bar being from seven to eight feet deep. During tho past season the steamboats New York, Com. Perry, and the schooners Wisconsin and Grampus passed over the bur. It bus been already surveyed by government, and is said to be the best site for a harbor on the went side of the lake. During the approaching session of Congress, appropriations will undoubtedly bo made for its improvement, which will be attended with hut litile expense.Taking all these favorable circumstances into consideration, together with the fact that the Manitoowoe river is navigable above the rapids for tho largasl boats to within four and a half miles of Lake Win-nelwgo, and from this lake an uninterrupted navigation to ihe Mississippi, through the Fox and Wisconsin rivers, •* Muuitoo-woc Rapids is certainly a town of great promise*.— Wit.
