Student Tells Of Experiences Writes for The Associated Press CONCORD, N.C. (AP)—Herbert Green's life just hasn't been the same since he thought that 1947 hearse, Herbert—witty, droll, intelligent! —is a senior at Concord High School and he said simply: ‘I just don’t know what possessed “me.” He's crammed it full of girls and camping supplies and rummage sale items, but he’s also used it at high school football games, to cooperate with police in safety programs. And during the Cuban crisis, he's been on standby stat us, in case of emergency. It’s all unofficial and no pay. Herbert and two buddies, Rich ard (Beaver) Turner and William C. Lee, have received more than just the oddest looks” they get as they drive around the city, all clad in medical looking Ben Casey shirts. Before police became familiar with the big, blue funeral wagon, they dutifully waved it on through traffic and stop lights. And Her bert still hasn't gotten over the time he drove his family’s maid home. The curtains on the hearse were closed. As the vehicle slowly rounded a corner, a group of Ne gro men looked in, saw the maid, the closed curtains, and solemnly and respectfully took off their hats and placed them over their chests. But Herbert wasn’t laughing the day his grandmother called him and told him to come and get her at a nursing home here, where she was visiting his great-grand mother, Herbert hopped in his trusty hearse, not knowing that a nurs ing home patient had died and that an ambulance had been sum moned. As he parked the hearse at the home, an attendant came out, re marking: “Boy, was that quick!
