Officials of the Coronado Yacht Club working together with the officials of the Long Beach Yacht Club, have com pleted plans for one of the most color ful power cruiser races of the 1934 yachting season. C. R. Bishop, Commo dore of the Long Beach Yacht Club and chairman of the entry committee for the race, has reported that on No vember 30, the day after Thanksgiving, not less than 20 large power cruisers belonging to yachtsmen of the Los An geles and San Diego yachting fraterni ties will cross the starting line off the Rainbow pier, Long Beach, on their handicaps and race, south in time to round the Point Loma whistling buoy and finish in one group in Glorietta Bay, Coronado in the late afternoon. Total length of the race is 94 nautical miles. It is reported that the race will be one of the most popular events that has occurred among yachting circles and is expected to be repeated an nually. When the race was first planned, of ficials of both yacht clubs wished to run the course around turning buoys located off some of the seacoast towns en route, but later check of possible early morning fog conditions proved this to be inadvisable at this time of the year. Letters of cooperation for this feature of the race were received from the Newport Beach chamber of commerce, the Laguna Beach city coun cil and the Oceanside chamber of com merce. Club officials have announced that another cruiser race between Long Beach and Coronado will be held next August when the daylight period will be longer and fog will probably be negligible. The seacoast towns will, at that time, be given another opportun ity of cooperating in accordance with the original plan. Another Long Beach Coronado race is being organized by Skipper Ned Manning who is head of the Forty-five Foot Sailing Association of Southern California. This will include the large sailing yachts, and Skipper Manning reports that positive entries have al ready been received from yacht owners who fly the burgees of the Newport harbor, Long Beach, Los Angeles and Catalina Island yacht clubs. These large sailing craft will cross the starting line at Long Beach and wind and weather permitting, will fin ish their race at Point Loma whistling buoy in time to reach the Coronado Yacht harbor before the finish of the power cruiser race. Vice-commodore Paul Hathaway of the Coronado Yacht Club, chairman of the entertainment committee, reports that a full round of entertainment cov ering the entire weekend is being planned by his committee for the visit ing yachtsmen. One of the chief fea tures will be a dinner in the crown room of the Hotel del Coronado at 8 p.m. Saturday, December 1, at which time trophies for both races will be presented to the winners. The dinner will be followed by dancing in the ca sino. In charge of the power cruiser race as general executive chairman will be Staff Commodore D. M. Callis of the L.B.Y.C., a yachtsman who has had years of experience in handling power cruiser races, among which is included the famous annual Long Beach to San Francisco power cruiser race.
