Obituary,MR. JAMES A. BELL.“The dear Lord’s best interpreters Are huinblo human souls;The gospel of a life like his,Is more than books or scrolls.”The poet’s words are certainly truo of Mr, James A. Bell who suddenly coased to work and live at six p. in., Wednes* day, Nov, 7th, 189*1. He was born near Kingston, Canada, Sept, 10th, * 1820. When a young man ho moved to Rochester, N. Y., thence to Mb. Algor, Jackson Co., Iowa, in 1855* There he was united in marriage to Mrs. Harriet Armstrong on Dec. 3rd, 1857, Shortly after he moVed to Clinton Co., where he lived seven years. In 1860 with wife and two children, he came to Linn Co., purchasing a farm six miles north east of Marion where he continued to live until three years ago, when lie moved to this city. _Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bell two of whom died in infancy, the remaining five and stepson, Mr. Henry Armstrong, and Mrs. Bell survive him. Such are the leading facts and prominent dates in a beautiful life. Mr. Beli had spent his whole life in agricultural pursuits and while securing from the soil best returns he had pos-BesBed liimself of a developed intellectual life tlmt appreciated the best of literature and fitted him to give sound advico on matters of importance . When about forty years of age he was clearly and thoroughly converted, His always moral life now took a beauty and power that was the joy of his heart and the delight of his friends. He immediately joined the Crab Apple Methodist Episcopal church near his home and gave it for twenty-two years his unswerving ) | fidelity and his Savior the allegiance of a loyal lover. For three years he has been a member of this church, a three5 | years blessing. His generous purse, his broad sympathy, with every burden, his buoyant hopefulness and Bunny ways blessing all. In bim,t “Mark the perfect man and behold the upright for the end of that man is peace.” The end6 | was nearer than any knew. Ill less than a day, chatty and happy even while lying on liis bed, with no sound.of the wheels, the chariot halted and he was borne away. A c ireful examination discovered that a blood vessel somewhat injured and near the heart, bursted and life was gone. Future physical pain was spared that soon must have come from a malignant growth of some size found within tlio stomach. With the setting sun, softly beautifully and full of promise bis life was lost to view to enter a land fairer and better than this. Amid our sobs we say “Farewell.” In the morning, God’s eternal morning we shall say, “All Hail.” The funeral services were held on Friday last at the M. E. church i of which Mr. Bell was- a prominent official member, the pastor Rev, J. G.
