August Schendel, father of Emil Schendel of Runge, died suddenly Sunday night at 11:15 o'clock, at the home of his daugh ter, Mrs. C. S. Brooks, at Kenedy, after an illness of probably less than twenty minutes duration. For the sec ond time during this year death entering the same home and the same way. The first being that of Conductor C. S. Brooks, which occurred on February 11. The cause of Mr. Schendel’s death was given as neuralgia of the heart. The sad news came as a shock to relatives and friends Mr. Schendel was born Feb ruary 26, 1846, at Province Posen, Germany, and had reach ed the ripe old age of 83 years, 8 months and 7 days at the time of his death. He came to Ameri ca in 1870, landing at Galveston, from here he went to Houston, where he was married to Miss Emilie Hohhertz, immediately after landing. He and his wife then proceeded to Washington Co, and from there to Breslau, Lavaca County, where they re sided for 10 or 12 years after which they moved to “‘half-moon timber,’’ which is now Shiner. In 1910 he retired from his duties as farmer and moved to the town of Shiner; in 1922 after the fail ing of his wife’s health, they moved to Yoakum to reside with their son-inlaw and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Jarocewsky. His wife passing away on Nov. 14, 1925 leaving him a widower, shortly after which he came to Kenedy to make his home with his son-in-law and youngest daughter, Mr. and Mrs. CS. Brooks. He leaves to mourn his loss the following children: B. J. Schendel of Kenedy; Mrs. Em ma Krause of Orange Grove; Mrs. Emilie Pretzel of Schulen burg; Willie Schendel of Shiner; Mrs. Linda Jarocewsky of Bee ville; Emil Schendel of Runge; Mrs. C. S. Brooks of Kenedy and Edmund Sehendel of El Campo (Three children having proceed ed him to the grave.) Besides 28 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Rev. K. Windecker, pastor of the Lutheran church of Karnes City conducting the funeral ser vices both at the residence in Kenedy and at the grave. Fol lowing a short service at the home the remains were carried to Shiner for interment in the family plot at the City Ceme tery. He was a life-long and faith ful member of the Lutheran church. He lived a true Chris tian life and it is doubtful if he had an enemy in the world. His family of children all be ing reared in the same Christian faith and to useful men and womanhood. Mr. Schendel was generally recognized as one of the fore most and best citizens of the community in which he lived. By hard work and thrift he had acquired a quite valuable estate and was a most successful farm er. He was a good man, a useful citizen, a kind and loving hus band, and father and a true friend to many a man whom he has helped through misfortunes of various kinds. The esteem in which he was held was expressed by the ex tremely large attendance and beautiful profuse floral offerings. The business houses of Shiner closed their places of business for the funeral in respect. May the memory of his good record and true Christian life be a solace to his bereaved children in their sad and untimely loss. Karnes County News.
