Crane, a discharged Pullman PalaceCar conductor, at he itood at the top ofthe second-story flight of steps of a bouse at 187 Welt Fourth street end glowered through the glass panes in the kitchen door it his mother-in-law whostood within. His wife, alarmed at the shots, hastened out of ths parlor and *ttWk*d'-r him in' the rear. IHis. attention was momentarily distracted frotu his mother-in-law, who, seeing ah opportunity to escape, did so, and summoned the police. Crane stood at the head of the stairs, pistol in hand, and threatened to shoot any one ascending the steps, but be finally surrendered himself and was locked up at Central Station on a charge of shooting to kill.Crane is thirty-one Tears of age. and four years ago married i and has lived with her parents sinceiss Asmann,span-presathen. They have only one child, a beautiful little girl nearly three years of age. Since he lost hia position Friday, he has Wen on a sproe. Only this morning he obtained $1 50 from bis wife with which to drink.
