Thetop runners, excluding mem-The Auburn Cross-Country team finished its 1975 season in Greensville, S.C., last Saturday, placing ninth in the Region II qualifying meet. The top six teams qualify for the Nationals.Auburn junior Terry Baker, sophomore Jon Fox, and freshman Rick Musick, qualified individually for thebers of the qualifyiKg six teams, will be eligible to compete in the Nationals.Baker finished 19th out of a field of 165 runners, with a 30:16 time. A 30:32 time over the six-mile course earned Musick 27th place. Fox finished 32nd with 30:41. Bob Montgomery, 49th, Les Porterfield, 55th, and Mark Jor-bum’s field.Cross Country Coach, Jerry Smith said that he felt the team did not give their best effort. “Everyone fell off a little as the race wore on,” said Smith.Tennessee won the meet with low score of 53 points. East Tennessee placed second with 91 poinos, and Western Kentucky was third with 92 points. Florida, 116, William Mary, 144, and Maryland, 149, sewed up the top six qualifying positions. Auburn missed qualifying by only 16 points with a 165 score.Smith felt his team lost momentum the previous week with a second place showing in the SEC meet. Coach Stan Narewski, assistant coach, said, “It is in the working that next year the Regional meet won't follow so close behind the SEC finals.”Smith felt sure that his team gained a great deal of “very good experience” by competing in the Region III meet.
