Local residents win at tourney_The largest Inter city amateur tennis tournament in South western Ohio, benefiting the American Heart Assn. and sponsored by The Kroger Co., had its final playoffs the weekend of Sept, 28 29 at the Eastern Hills indoor Tennis Club Originally scheduled to be played at the new outdoor Coney Island tennis Club, the event was moved, at the last minute, due to the bad weather with only a few matches remaining to be played.This first annual Tennis for Heart Tournament boasted nearly 400 entrants, amateurs from ages 12 to 65, boys and girls, men and women, in both singles and doubles events from as far as Hamilton, Middletown and Fairfield, Ohio.The American Heart Assort. * extended its deepest appreciation to every entrant who made this first Tournament for Heart a most successful special event. Particular recognition should go to John Mirlisena of Bond Hill, who not only won his doubles match but was runner up in his singles event. John, still in his early teens, has successfully overcome heart surgery.Sanctioned by the American Lawn Tennis Assn., club level winners, from' all indoor., clubs in the area, received a trophy and the Southwestern Ohio Amateur finalists gained eight points each for the club they represented, with the runners up gaining five points each.
