Carlin Townsitars Want a New County and Are Long of Lots The biennial question of county di vision again crops out with the de feat of John W. Puett of Carlin. It seems from the election reports that John ran a poor Second in the race for the Legislature from Elko Coun ty, however, he still has some town lets down at Carlin he wants to cap italize In the for of a new county and he lying on some poor losers to help hiss out. Eureka County has been getting along for 60 years. She doesn't owe a want to anybody. Some way or an other Eureka County feels that her disposition should not be a source of badinage among disappointed soap box politicians that have failed to se cure even a majority of the votes of their own sex. Not alone in Hureka County is the sentiment against county division. It {s brought up forcibly in the follow ing article In the Eiko Independent of November 9 Three schemes Les Eiko County are now MAar consideration by residents of Carlin, according to John W. Puett, who was here from the western county run yesterday. Puett announced, ine statement to an Independent reporter, that inas much ad been defeated for the Legislature that he considered his pre-election day pledge pot to make any move toward dividing the county was cancelled and that he is now free to adopt any means he pleases or any move he considers timely for slicing the western end of Eiko County off to its parent and creating a Little com monwealth which will be the ex clusive property of the people of Car lin, Gold Circle and Tuscarora. This county newly created, would also, ac cording to Puett's plan, take In Pine Valley, which would thereby be cut, off of Eureka County. ’ Puett stated yesterday that the people of Pine Valley were extremely dissatisfied with their connection with Eureka County. Also that the people of Gold Circle and Tuscarora were enthusiastic in their support of the proposal to take that portion of this county away from its present legal ties. ‘This support of his pro posal, he says, springs from the fact that the people of these districts have been neglected in the matter of rod work and other county benefits that should have been extended them by the County Commissioners and bel ieve that they would receive more satisfactory results from the estab ishment of their own county govern ment. The first proposal, according to Puett, was to take Carlin, Tuscarora, Gold Circle, and the attendant terri tory, attach it to Eureka County and make Carlin the county seat of the new county. But this does not meet with the approval of Puett, who is the owner of the Carlin townsite, Puett proposes to alle lece off of Eureka County and another piece off of Elko County, attach both pieces to Carlin and make Carlin the county seat of a new county entirely. This will require more than $5000 to put through, according to his statement yesterday, and means are being con sidered for raising the money. The Plan seems to have originated in Car lin exclusively, although prominent ranch residents of Pine Valley in Eu reka County are said to be favoring the plan to become a part of the new county providing they are detached from Eureka County. As a matter of fact the entire scheme more than likely emanates from the fertile brain of Mr. Puett as ® means for enhancing the value of [bia real property to Carlin, . So far as inquiry extends thus far lime sentiment of the territory sur rounding Tuscarora is not in favor of any such division. That this to the sentiment 9 expressed to the election of Tracy Fatrenild, of the Tuscarora district, pledged with the other mem bers of the fusion taket again at coun ty division, Puett'i idea that the county government has neglected these portions of the county in mat ters of road work will not hold water, for it is generally conceded that they have been treated with the same can slatency and impartiality that all oth er parts of the county have experi enced from the present board of County Commissioners and highway commissioners. As a matter of fact!)
