_ Extract of a letter from Kirkwall, dated the 29th of Oct. 1821.:—** The Hudson’s Bay ships arrived at Stromness when I was here ,on ‘Friday last. They give intelligence of the Gentlemen, ‘who’ went in the North West Land Expedition. .. They have brought dispatches, dated the 18th of April last, when the travellers were not ‘above forty miles 'from the place where Capt. Parry had’ wintered. They were all well. This good news will be agreeable, and may reach you before the dispatches arrive at Edinburgh via‘London. There are 160 servants of the Hudson’s Bay Company rétinued, «Edinbured Stars on Thy Gaalte de Bologne announces, that the ani ‘nal portrait of... Laura.has ‘been ..discovered. “The fiost' authentic ‘documents prove that the portrait en graved and published by Morghen is ideal; ‘or’ at least that of another Laura, who lived long after the death of 'the woman Whortt'the tove and the ‘verses of P CSCS CR tal the gig Chagoone grarch have rendered ‘so célebrated.
