They had already packaged their equipment for shipment to us. Fortunately, the only hard feeling generated by this action was directed towards CUB, and a complaint letter was to have been sent by the proprietor to president Graham. The system from Music City is by far the best in the North Country. It delivers nearly 600, watts of distortion-free power, enough to shake the entire gymnasium. The CUB system, on the other hand, delivers just over 400 watts of square waves (maximum distortion possible) into poor column speakers, which according to the groups which played, were very badly arranged. It is easy to see that the Music City system was far more desirable, But what of the groups which had to put up with CUB's distortion and feedback? The Kinks were extremely angry about the whole thing, especially after they realized that no one understood what they were doing when they were trying to introduce themselves. Spirit very nearly refused to play, claiming breach of contract, as the contract called for a quality sound system, WTSC-FM, which had received permission to broadcast the concert, could not air most of it due to the distortion in the sound equipment.CUB's bill to Homecoming was for $188. , -Equipment rental charge was $15, which we shall not complain about; $50 was charged for damages to microphones and footlights, and that we shall not dispute; but the remainder of the bill was for $123 for labor on the part of members of the “service* organization involved, CUB,I believe CUB is the only student organization, besides KOTC, which pays its members, and puts it on the bill for equipment rental. With a $72,000 budget, I thinkthat, first, CUB can afford a decent sound system; and second, if CUB members must be paid, they should be paid out of 1 the $72,000 available, |My thanks to all of those who came to the concert; and especially to the people who helped, voluntarily, to make this concert a success, in spite of the sour taste left in everyones' mouths by the quality of the vocals done by the two groups.Dave Doherty, CCT'72 Producer, Homecoming ConcertTh« ShowiagIof 'Tbo Qini’To the Editor:The Cinema as an Art program has included Wednesday night's presentation of “The Queen* in its schedule for a number of reasons. The critics' comments can explain these reasons best:“Authentic shriek of sociology, hairer than most and strangely sad*PLAYBOY (The Queen was also included in playboy's latest article on : films for 1969)“The transvestite aura with fascinating, gripping detail. It is a unique phenomenon,*William Wolf-CUE“...A triumphant demonstration of how to present such unconventional material in such a way as to leave us with a higher regard for its given grotesque characters as human beings, and how to understand without patronage and endistanqing pity,*LONDON TIMESNeither exploitive nor shocking, but a sensitive and often moving documentary about real people, “The Queen* introduces the general public unfamiliar with the lives of female impersonators to the men who compete each year for the “drag Miss All-America * beauty contest.
