Pioneer Resident, Who Had Held Many Positions in Territory and County, Is Called by Death. Gen. Robert T. Burton, a pioneer resi dent of this city, scieol at his home yes terday afternoon at the advance rape of 86 years. Gen. Burton was born in Canada, October 1, 1821. When still a young man he joined the Mormon church and went to Nauvoo, where he married Miss Maria SS. Haven, with whom he came to Salt Lake City in 1848 Later he mar ried « Aliss Carr and a Misa McBride as his second and third wives. _ General Burton took an active part in the upbuilding of this state. Flo took part in the early Indian wave. For twenty-one years he was sheriff of Salt Lake county and later assessor and col lector of the county. He was a deputy United States marshal for seven years and collector of internal revenues for a similar period. He served five terms in the territorial legislature and one or two terms as a member of the cty council General Burton filled a number of ecclesiastical positions in cluding the bishopric of the fifteenth ward. ; He is survived by sixteen sons and five daughters. Among these are: Charles of the State Bank of Utah and president of the Clearing House association; Lyman W. of the Burton Coal and Lumber comi ony; Willard of the George F. Felt lumber company; Edward L., stock and bold broker; Elbert T. of the Highamurton Plumbing company; Austin G., civil engineer; Bishop Henry G., Williams., Robert T., Jr, Heber K., Alfred J., UWardy G. Hosea C., George F., Walter E., Mrs. L. S. Hills, Sfrs. Ja. Wilcox, Miss Ada Burton, Miss Vir ginia Burton and Mrs. Fenton. The funeral will be held from the tabernacle at 10 o’s clock Thursday morning.
