Nicholas Kennedy, of Carbo near, His Wife and Nine Children and a Shoreman in a Perilous Condition. Aft Conception Bay was shocked on the ar rival of the schooner Consort, Capt. Daniel Pumphrey, at Harbor Grace on Saturday morning from Labrador, when the terrible fact became known that Nicholas Kennedy, of Crocker’s Cove, Carbonear, his wife and nine children had been Left Perhaps to Perish at Sloop’s Cove, Cape Harrison, Labrador. Kennedy and his family were brought as freighters to the Labrador by Capt. Pum phrey, and he was to call for them and take them home. When he arrived off Sloop Cove, home, gales of wind prevented his making the harbor. The vessel lay up and down the coast, so our informant states, for 3 or 4 days, when the captain decided to come on, as the ice had already begun to form. It was ten that Capt. John Ken nedy, a brother of Nicholas, would Carry Him and His Family Home. The Consort's supply of food was also short for the large number of ever on board. Great apprehension is felt at Harbor Grace and Carbonear for the safety of Kennedy and his family who have very many friends at both places. When the facts became known, Bishop McDonald, Capt. Jno. Hennessey, D. Pumphery, Mr. Duff, M.H.A., and John Murphy, who is married to a sister of Kennedy's wife, sent telegrams to the Government. A reply was received asking the name of the owner and master of the Consort, who, it is understood,will be prosecuted for criminal neglect. The matter has been laid before the Executive, and, no doubt, the Grand Lake has been ordered to proceed to Sloop Cove immediately. This is the only way of rescuing Nicho las Kennedy and his family from their perilous condition. The unfortunate family had only a small supply of food, and Mrs. Kennedy was in delicate health.
