The county commissioners were in session yesterday and spent most of the time in wrestling with bills. Those that seem to worry them the most and which they appeared to be the least inclined to treat fairly were bills of the printers. The most of today has been spent dodging some very important issues in that line which will have to be met sooner or later One of the questions discussed by the commissioners yesterday was the legality of publishing the sherif’s proclamation in a German paper John W. Slough, assistant prosecut ion attorney gave a written opinion this morning wherein it is clued to the commissioners that the sheriff’s proclamation of a general election must be published in two papers of opposite politics and that the law does not authorize its publication in a German paper. There was quite a breeze, yesterday around the court house, over the matter of the treasuryship. The pos sibility of Geo. OC. Serrill receiving a commission for the full term was the occasion of the excitement. In his case, as in that of the prosecutor, his nomination was certified up for the unexpired term. The secretary of state held that the law did not provide for the election to an unexpired term and hence issue a commission to Ans berry for three years Serrill and Wisoa were both candidates on the Democratic ticket, and Serrill received the most votes. The attorney gen eral will doubtless pass on the ques tion and then it will be known defin itely how the case stands, if Mr. Ser rill should receive a commission for the full term that would certainly shut Wisda out. Word was received today that deputy Recorder Claud E. Maxwell, who recently underwent an operation in the hospital at Toledo is improving rapidly and hopes to be at home in a few days. TRANSFERS.
