Such are the accident** of life, and they should be oudured by brave men with philosophic coinpoaure.-Meridlan Mercury.- Monllcello fire.Montfceifo A«1 vorafr. On last Monday morning, a few minutes alter twelve, a. in., our usually quiet little village was disturbed by the alarm of fire, which was discovered emerging from the house formerly known as the Drug Htoro, then occupied by J. M. Benson Ac. Co, as a dry goods house, in which was located the postofttce, and when discovered, the llaincs were under such headwaythat there appeared no prospect of rescuing any of Its contents from it, unrdo we believe it was attempted. The wind being from the north-west the flames soon communicated with contiguous and adjacent buildings with such rapidity that, the progressof the lire seemed almost uueontrol-able. The flames spread so swiftly that by 3 a. m., they had engulfed Mis. Wilson’s, Bealrs, Dales, Frtlr-mau’s Colin’s and Mrs. Block’s. They were not the only sufiY-rcr*—thelr’s were the houses, except the Wester-fleld’s, in which the fire orignatcd. The destruction of the aforementioned property was entire, none of the contents were taken from them except Benson’s.Cohn, $15,000, insured .........$10,000Benson, $3000 “ *3,000Dale, $0,000 41 $1,000Mrs Wilson, $5,000, no insurance. It is not possible for us to give a description of the progress of the fire, or the incidents connected therewith, or the heroism and labor of those who endeavored bo energetically and faithfully to Have property from destruction, and comfort those who were the sufferers. Some exerted themselves so excessively as to faint* others to fall prostrate from exliaua-tiou. We were not there, ami therefore cannot say.The jRckiWD Korvfy.I 44 I 14 MII
