Too use Mr. Sinclair’s words:— I left Kingston at half past six in pouring rain, along with my friend Mr. Doveton Kennedy, who offered to do the driving as I had just one hour before purchased this NASH car, and he has nore knowledge of motor cars. We encountered pouring rain through the entire journey to Negril Spots. We ran into water soon after we entered the Spanish Town Road from the Hagley Park Road, and at some places the water was two feet high, but when we passed the Ferry, we got into a depth of three feet and over, former were walking ahead of us, and the water was up to their waists at times. The car went through all this on its own power, with the exception of once when we were stopped by two trucks which had been stranded side by side in the middle of the road. We had to go over to the extreme right which was down in the gutter, and so as to avoid the engine taking in water, we shut off, and we were pushed from beside these trucks back into the middle of the road way, started up the engine, and went through to Negril Spots and back to King ston without stopping on the roadway from any weather cause. Along the Spanish Town Poad, whe we were going over, at least fifty more vehicles were swamped and held up along the roadside, and many were turning back. We saw them being pushed by me whilst turning, and we were advised many times to turn back as we would not be able to go through. We were informed at Spanish Town next day that we were one of only three cars that managed to come through the night before. We saw many trees on branches of on the roadways, but not sufficiently erous to prevent on going through. I were well armed with machettes and an axe for any emergency such as cutting our way through trees that might have been in the roadway, but fortunately there was no necessity to resort to them. Coming back the next day one of two friends in Sav-la-mar advised us not to re turn to Kingston that day because they had had trouble just a few minutes before and that they had to be pushed through water that had accumulated since the night before, but we paid no heed to this, for we knew by this what our NASH car was capable of, and we continued on our journey, went through this water re ferred to on our own power, and straight through to Kingston without a stop. We left Negril Spots next day, Friday, the 3rd instant, at 10 a.m. and arrived in Kingston around 3 p.m. Altogether on this trip and our local running around, we did about 320 miles. The mileage on gasoline, worked out at about twenty-one miles to the gallon. Mr. Sinclair further states that he is particularly pleased with this performance because Mr. Ernest Rae told him that the car would give him twenty miles to the gallon, and twenty one miles to the gallon is_ particularly good considering that we drove along the Spanish Town Road to Spanish Town almost the entire way on first speed. I mentioned this to a salesman of a com petitive make of motor car and as a result of a bet my friend Mr. Kennedy and my self carried out a demonstration over a distance of twenty mile., and satisfied this competitive salesman that we took less than one gallon to cover this distance, but above all, what has ordeared me most to the car and the Nash Motor Sales Co. Ltd. was the immediate and efficient ser vice offered by them on my return, which necessitated their working over time for they wanted to examine every imaginable part of the car so as to see that there was no water remaining in it as a result of our going through such depth and quantity of water on this hazardous journey. THE NASH MOTOR SALES CO., LTD., 15 WEST ST. have on hand a stock of 1940 models. They also offer an ef ficient NASH approved Service Station. o) Rak vast CARS at me .
