This is a confidential talk to the people of Deéeater county concerning the merchants of Greensburg. Local merchants have been buying and selling on a rising market for the past three years and have been fur nishing their customers goods often times for less than they could replace them on their shelves and counters. They did not mark up the price every night as some of the big city mer chants did but the gave YOU the ad vantage of the first price put on the goods at a sacrfice to themselves. Now the merchants realize that they have reached the peak of prices and having purchased at the high point they will have to sell at a sharp reduction—in fact in many instances at a loss. The consumers who have all along profited by the manner in which our business men have treated them should now under the new order show their appreciation by being quick to respond when the merchants an nounce a clearance sale of goods with liberal reductions in order to put them on a normal basis. The people of Decatur county are asked to think this matter over and show their appreciation by giving their trade where they have been ben efitted by favors in the past. In so doing they will show the proper spirit of co-operation and thereby strength en the tie that binds merchant and customer in mutual helpfulness. ‘We have confidence in Decatur county’s people that they will respond to this call as they often have on other occasions.
