Fourteen buildings, including the Front Street Hotel, were burned. The loss of money will be |fi0,000.When the lire broke out the guests in the hotel were all asleep and seven or more are probably burned to .death. Ed Newberry, porter of the hotel perished in the Haines. The great majority of the guests escaped uninjured.
