Our% a/1 i nPedernales Electric Cooperative Begins Service1800 Miles Energized Last FridayJohnson City, November 1.—The first section of the Pedernales Electric Cooperative, Inc.'s 1800 mile distribution system was energized last Friday. The Lower Colorado Authority substation at Bertram was tapped to carry electric energy to 422 members of the Cooperative in the area adjacent to Bertram, Liberty Hill, Lake Victor, Briggs, and Oakalla.Energization of the 120 mile section of line running north of Burnet to N arum a will follow shortly. 250 members will be served by this line.An intensive membership campaign is being conducted by the Cooperative. During the duration of the campaign, people living within 1,000 feet of the newly constructed lines will have an opportunity to be connected for service.Members ilong the energized line were highly enthusiastic a-bout the coming of electricity to their homes. E. Babe Smith, a member of t he Cooperative's Board of Directors, was assigned Meter No. One and was one of the first to turn on the lights. We was no prouder than his small daughter, however, for she had been waiting a long time to see her toy palace lighted by electricity.Superintendent Lee McWilliams received a message of congratulation from Congressman Lyndon B. Johnson, who said in part,“With the energization of this first gection of line, we are merely beginning to realize the dream we have all been working to fulfill. I shall not be satisfied until every rural home in my district has access to electricity at the lowest possible cost.Brown Root, contractors for the Cooperative, are making excellent progress in the construction of lines in Llano, Mason and Gillespie Counties.
