V, Money's Shurtleff Pioneers scored their second victory of the season, Saturday, October 29, on the losers’ field.ShurtlefTs initial score came early in the second quarter after Eureka had punted to Bob Gearing on the 40 yard line. Gearing's return to the 19 followed by Carl Keck’s pass to Ben Moore gave the Pioneers a first down on the Red Devils’ 5 yard stripe. Line plunges by Les Patrick and Keck put the ball on the 6 inch line from which Purvines scored. Patrick’s placement was good.Eureka kicked to the Pioneers and a few minutes later recovered a fumble on the locals’ 40 yard line. Four plays later, the Red Devils’ halfback, Cox, tossed a pass to Travlor, who scored. Grant’s place kick was good to tie the score at 1A.Ell wood Holtzscher intercepted a Eureka pass on the Devils’ 32 yard line to pave the way for Shurtleff’s winning touchdown. A pass from Patrick to Moore and Ken McConathy’s line-smashes enabled Patrick to score from the 3 inch line.The locals came close to scoring earlier in the game. After they had advanced the ball down on Eureka’s 10 yard line for a first down, a 47% yard penalty shattered this chance. Shurtleff suffered penalties amounting td 117 yards, an unwelcome record. Eureka lost 35 yards in the same manner.Shurtleff completed 4 of its 8 passes while the Red Devils completed 3 of the 11 tried. Shurtleff had 7 first downs to 6 for Eureka. Yardage gained from scrimmage was about equalfor the two teams.
