He saw its congregation grow until it taxed the seating capacity of the building and then he saw the decline until only he and his wife of the flock remain.Casey settled in Clarks HiU in 1856. Other families of his belief also moved to the “Hill” most of them coming from Ireland. For several years services were held in Casey'shome, but in 1867 the wooden chapel that still stands was built. The pews were of black walnut.Father Winters, a priest, first came from Lafayette to conduct services. Later Father Flaherty, from Crawfordsville, then Father Kilroy. from Lafayette and others followed The visits of the priests were madeevery few weeks.
