CAUGHT RATS OUT OF SEASON.An Algona Citizen is Mulcted For Catching Muskrats and Pays a Fine.Someone who was in mighty small business made complaint last • week on old man Halverson, who it seems, had been doing a little trapping of musk rats. The complainant informed Charley Pooch of Cresco, the deputy game wai*den of this locality, and Pooch swore out a search warrant and had Halverson’s premises searched. Two rat skins were found and it is said that more might have been found but two were considered enough, and Halverson was brought into court. He pleaded guilty and paid the costs which amounted to $15. Squire Cotant and Marshal Switzer each cut his fees in two, thus letting him off a little easier. We do not see why the law protects rats or blackbirds, and we do not think that any good comes from enforcing such fool laws against a poor man who works hard to make an honest living.
