Eva was a slave on the farm of Hickatu at the close of the war. but was never told that she had been freed, and 1 for twenty-five year* she worked on for the family, believing her**elf still the property of Hfckatn. After Hickam'a death in 1S49 the woman received the fir*t inkling that she was unt a slave, and that she was illegally restrained of her liberty.Ufiiimidfil tor Trial Again.She brought suit against the estate of her former master for 11,440 81 for ser-j vices for twenty-four year* and live days.
