GRANTDeputy Sheriff Shot To Death .J. IS. Red Sdhrimshrh, one of the best known and mbs! efficient deputy sheriffs in Grant county, was killed near Hachita yesterday by an assassin who fired at him from ambush. The bullet entered his heart killing him instantly. ISehrimshcr and Walter Birchficld had been on a trip to Charles Up-1 shaw's ranch and it was on the return journey that the murder occurred. The two men were at Brown’s ranch, quite near Hachita. and Rirrh-' field got off his horse to open the I gate. While hr was thus engaged a bullet struck the wire fence nearby and fell at his feet. Almost immediately a second bullet, fired with terrible accuracy, struck the deputy:, sheriff fairly in the heart and he fell from his horse dead. No report of the rifle, or rifles, was heard and it is presumed that the shots were fired from a considerable distance.
