ADOLPH E. NORRIS CUMBERLAND — Adolph Emerson Norris, 93, of Cum berland, passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at the WMHS Memorial Campus. Born Sept. 22, 1915, in Piney Grove, he was the son of the late David Dayton Norris and Margaret Mable (Brinkman) Norris. Mr. Norris was also preceded in death by his brother, Franklin D. Norris and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A graduate of Flintstone High School, class of 1932, Mr. Norris was a United States Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Norris worked for the American Oil Company for 23 years prior to being the owner and president of the Petroleum Equipment Com pany, Inc., until his retirement in 1985. He was a 64-year member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was also a mem ber of the United Methodist Men of the Church and served as a local 4-H leader for a number of years. Surviving are his wife of 72 years, Dorothy L. Norris, his sons, Larry Norris and his wife Carol Lynne, Venice, Fla., and David Norris and his wife Brenda Jean, Pittsfield, Mass. He was the grandfa ther of Robin L. Brown and her husband Richard, Freder ick, Kimberly Anne Harring ton and her husband Jason, Ramstein, Germany, Kimber ly West and her husband Jonathan, S. Berwick, Maine, and Erik D. Norris, Newark, Del.; as well as three great granddaughters and three great-grandsons. Jack George officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park. CRESAPTOWN — John Herman Lancaster, 87, of Cre saptown, died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Devlin Manor Nurs ing Home. Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Eck hart, he was the son of the late Stanley Lancaster and Anna (Steele) Lancaster Grabenstein. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eva L. (Mangold) Lancaster, and his brother-in-law, William Norris. Mr. Lancaster was a Unit ed States Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Elks Club and was for merly employed by the Celanese Corp., Queen City Laundry, Mountain State Laundry and Potomac Mo tors, Cumberland. He was a longtime, resident of South Cumberland,and was Protes tant by faith. Surviving are his daughter, Fay A. Humbertson, Cresap town; one sister, Frances Nor ris, Cumberland; two grand children, Steven M. Robi nette, Cumberland, and Amanda Rosenberger and husband Jeffrey, Cresaptown; great-granddaughter, Caitlin; the father of the grandchil dren, Milson “Skeeter” Robi nette, Cumberland; and sev eral nieces and nephews. Tamor ria officiating. Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Honor Guard. J. MATTHEW MATHIAS, D.D.S MARTINSBURG, W.Va. John Matthew “Matt” Math ias, D.D.S., 39, of Martins burg, died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at the George town Hospital in Washington, D.C Mr. Mathias was born on July 3, 1969, in Winchester, Va., a son of John M. and Janie Bett Mathias of Kirby. He was a dentist with Cruikshank Mathias Den tists in Martinsburg. He was a 1987 graduate of Hampshire High School, served as a lieu tenant in the United States Navy for eight years and was a 1996 graduate of West Vir ginia University Dental School where he received a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery and was the presi dent of his graduating class. He was the secretary/treas urer of the Eastern Panhan dle Dental Association, a member of the American Dental Association, Rotary Club of Martinsburg, WVU Alumni Association, Ebenez er Lutheran Church in Rio, Vicki Bell Hunt Club in Math ias and American Legion Post 134 in Kirby. Mr. Mathias was married to Penny Hott on April 4, 1998, in Kirby. Surviving with his wife and parents are one godson, Dylan T. Saville of Winches ter; one sister, Nicole M. Pownell and her husband Billy of Romney; maternal grandmother, Madeline Bott Nesmith of Wardensville; and two nieces, Emily and Sarah Pownell. A funeral service will be conducted at the Augusta Church of Christ on Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at 1 p.m. Offici ating will be the Rev. Dale Poland. Interment will be in the Rio Cemetery in Rio. Born in Zihlman, Md., he was the son of the late Archibald and Margaret (Rankin) Lennox. Mr. Lennox was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Walker) Lennox and was the last sur viving member of his immedi ate family. Mr. Lennox retired from the Allegany Ballistic Labora tory. He was a member of Saint Patrick's ~—_ Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Mount Savage, Md. Surviving are his second wife, Janet Lennox; his sons, Robert Lennox and his wife Maureen, Mount Savage, Ronald Lennox and his wife Bonnie,Frederick, Md., Edward Lennox and his wife Jo Ellen, Frederick, and Regi nald Lennox and his wife Bonnie, Creston, Md.; and his daughter, Pamela Buckalew and husband John, Lake wood; and his loving canine companion, Cameron. FREDA M. AUSTIN OAKLAND — Freda Marie Austin, 77, of Frick’s Crossing Road, Oakland, died Thurs day, Nov. 6, 2008, at the Oak land Nursing Rehabilitation Center. Born May 15, 1931, in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late Alvie Harold and Stella Marie (Rodehaver) DeWitt. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis Austin _ II; brother, Alan DeWitt; grand son, Robbie J. Skipper. Mrs. Austin was the former owner and operator of Rose mont Restaurant in Keyser. She also managed the kitchen at the American Legion and the Oakland Country Club. She was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked and volunteered at the Garrett County Histori cal Society for a number of years. Surviving are one daughter, Angela Skipper Bray and hus band Roscoe of Deer Park; two brothers, H. Glenn DeWitt and companion Ruth Georg of Friendsville, Andrew DeWitt and wife Betty of Bow den, W.Va.; one sister, Jan L. Bernard and husband Har land of Swanton; sister-in-law, Sandy DeWitt of McHenry; grandchildren, Jason Todd Skipper of Oakland, Lori M. Hardman and husband Matt of Oakland; great-grandchil dren, Brytan, Blake, Braden and Jilian. The family will receive friends at the David A. Bur dock Funeral Home, PA., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 2008, at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren with her pastor Rev. Mel Menker officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett Memorial Gardens. (Moore) Young, age 87, of Petersburg, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, at Grant County Nursing Home. Mrs. Young was born on May 17, 1921, in Cumberland, Md., and was the daughter of the late Alonzo Edwin Moore and Edna May (Brant) Moore She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth K. Young; one brother; and three sisters. She served in the U.S Army and had worked at the Newton D. Baker Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg. She was a member of the Potomac Valley Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Ronald Young and wife Sandy of Petersburg, and David Young and wife Nancy of Richmond, Ind.; one daugh ter, Kathryn Slough and hus band John of Martinsburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; one bro ther, William Glenn Moore of Twin Falls, Idaho. Friends may call on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Schaef fer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.
