The investi-j-—gat ion has resulted in some of the oiggest ones going off the air. either because of f illing ratings or because they were accused -f rigging.The charge lodged against Freedman, 36. is a two-count perjury indict ment returned by a Manhattan grand jury.It carries a maximum penalty upon conviction of up to 10 years in prison.FREEPMANThe grand jury said Freedman revealed questions and answers to 21” contestants in advance ofthei’- appearance on the air andthen lied to the grand jury by denying such tactics.Everything I told the grand jury is the truth, Freedman insisted as he was taken from the district attorney’s office in handcuffs.Later, in General Sessions Court, Freedman pleaded innocent to the charges and Judge Mitchell D. Schweitzer released him in $1,500 bail. No trial date was set.The “21” show formerly was carried by NBC. But the network washed its hands of the case, pointing out that Freedman was not an NBC employe.Freedman worked for Production Services Inc., headed by Jack Barry and Dan Enright, owners of “21.
