FORT WORTH. Nov. 7.— (UP1-Poltce believed today that W. L Ray. 42. waa slain for revenge in a pel haps long standing vendetta with deaperate men. .Kay, son of Rev. Jeff l. Ray. professor of evangelism at the Baptist Theological seminary here, disappeared last Sunday after leaving his home to go to a Texas company filling aation. of which he had been manager the night before. He was found late yesterday slugged and choked to death In a ravine a short distance from the way he was to walk.Professor Ray said his son shot one of two men who attempted to hold him up in El Paso a year ago. The wounded man was slain later in a bank robbery. The father believes the other waylaid his son. A theory of robbery was abandon^ when the dead man's billfold containing $T was found in his pocketA theory of suicide, .held by the father earlier, was discarded because of the two-strand, rope twist ed about the dead man’s neck with a stick. Justice Walter Prichard believed it impossible for Ray to have strangled himself in this manner and said the man apparently had been murdered.A letter received yesterday by Rev. Ray demanding $1000 on the threat of returning his son “In pieces'* was branded by police a^ the work of an illiterate crank attempting to make money out of the Ray disappearance. The body was so decomponed that police were sure he had been dead days when the letter was mailed at 9:90 p. m Thursday.*The slain man’a widow said hr i had yio enemies.
