GRAMMAR SCHOOL NOTESThe seventh and eighth grades of the Elko Grammar School gave a very attractive Holtove'en party last Friday evening In the form of a mas-querade. Some of the boys and girls came in costumes suggestive of the holiday celebrated while others were costumed after anything the mind might fancy. Nearly all characters were so well sustained that the identity tv.is concealed until time for unmasking. The merry frolic continued from the time the grand march was led by Prof. Welday and Miss Hansel until all adjourned to the gymnasium for the dainty refreshments that were prepared by the pupils. The gym was tastefully decorated with Hallowe'en ornaments and looked weired and spooky indeed, Braza Dubois. Laura Hunt. Dorothy Haigh. Jessie Stinson and Kathleen Stewart of the slith grade assisted In serving. One of the most pleasing features of the evening was the presence of so many parents and friends. A number of prizes were awarded for the best sustained characters. Group prize—Angelica Car-valho and Rose Thorne (Soldier and Nurse). Girl’s first prize—Emma Murphy (Scotch girl). Girl's second prize — Bee Jones (Colonial Lady). Boy’s first prize—Niles Bruce (Farmer). Boy’s second prize—Arthur Jukes (Girl). After a most delightful evening all departed voting the party the most enjoyablg one ever given. The present enrollment Is 271 At the beginning of laBt month It was 256. showing that 15 pupils entered the second month of school. iTis necessary. sometimes, to demote (pupils who enter late because they have missed so much work that they can-noto keep up with the class to which they were provoted. A great deal of extra work is necessary on the part of the teachers to help pupils make up back work. Hence the importance of having them enter at the beginning of the year and remain in school until It closes. There are now 151 of our pupils enrolled in the Junior Auxiliary of the American Red Cross here. The per cent of the pupils in the various grades are given below: Primary, 10per cent, first grade 44 per cent, second grade 70 per cent, third grade 47 per cent, fourth grade 55 per cent, fllfth grade 70 per cent, sixth grade. 47 per cent, seventh grade 49 per cent, eighth grade 25 per cent. Front the membership fees alone we have deposited In a local bank the sum of $37.75 already. This Is quite a material aid to this good cause. In the sewing classes the girls are going Red Cross work and It proves very Interesting.Robert Flagler who has been visiting In Lewisville, Idaho, since last spring has returned and Is In school again. Batiste Tontera, William and Ulno Aiazzi entered the third grade Monday. The number of cases of tardiness was slightly reduced the past monih, but we most earnestly ask the parents to insist that their children come to school on time. Some parents and guardians tlo not seem to realize how very important it is to have pupils attend regularly
