James Marion Means of Route 2 died at 9:30 a. m. Monday in Graham hospital. He had been in failing health two years and seriously ill a week. Born June 20, 1888 in Chap in, Ill. he was the son of Joseph and Mary Means and had lived since childhood in Keokuk where he was a dec orator. In 1912 at Davenport he married Louise O. Shoemak er. He was of the Christian faith and a member of the Painters Union. Surviving are four sons, James A. of Keokuk, Claud D. of Warsaw, LeRoy of Keo kuk and Jack of Montrose; five daughters, Mrs. Della Shaffer of Andalusia, Sl. Mrs. Virginia Hartling of Le May, Mo., Mrs. Ida Belle Ries ner of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Mary Lytle of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. Florence Ca vett of Rock Island, a sister, Mrs. Lily Cook of Venice, Calif., 24 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. His wife preceded him in death in 1952. He also was preceded by three brothers and a Sis ter. The funeral will be Wednes day at 2 p. m. in DeJong’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellsworth L. Woods officiat ing. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
