Mrs. Mary Mays ot Clark street, Astoria, Long Island, and Mrs. Wheeler of Carney, near Newark, visited Duane’s grave in the Washingtonville cemetery.Maya' many friends had sought for days to bring come relative of the young man to his dying bed or to the funeral. Although many newspapers had printed the story of the search and network of 3z radio stations made the announcement, there was no word from relatives.Friends of Mays tentatively discussed ambitious plans for a memorial baseball field, honoring the young shortstop.Shocked by the death of the son she had not seen for many years, Mrs. Mary Maya was nevertheless grateful for the care and honor which had been shown him by his friends in Washingtonville and surrounding territory. She ex-relatives although it was said he occasionally visited a sister in Brooklyn.Duane last saw his mther about four years ago when he visited her. Mrs. Wheeler heard from her brother in November, a year ago. Traveling south then, he stopped enroute to telephone her.A brother and sister live in Iowa. Mrs. Wlheeleh said.Friends in Washingtonville were told that Duane’s father died when he was only a baby. Mr. of the effects of a horse’s kick. Mays was a blacksmith. He died Duane was born Feb. 6. 1904. The memorial baseball game played netted between $850 and $900. Though earlier estimates of a larger sum prove to have been over-optomistic, the total realized is regarded large. Whether it will be sufficient to cover hospital and funeral expenses is nit yet known.The plan to erect a monument to Mays in the Felter plot has been put aside. Mr. Felter will permit the 'engraving the youth’s name on the family monument Efforts for a memorial will now be devoted to the proposal to establish a memorial baseball field in the village of Washingtonville. Friends from many parts of the county are joining in support of the proposition. The field would be named “Duane Mays Memorial Field’’ and would probably contain a tablet inscribed to the well known baseball player.Constable Carroll, notified, caught the boys after a uong chase. They were Tommy Ryan, Norman Swink and Louis Spangler.Spangler, it developed, had no gun. The other two said they 4iad been firing at telephone poles with their 22-calibre guns.Conthable Carroll said that when he knows the outcome of the injury, he would arraign Ryan and Swink before a police justice. It contained an address on Halsey street, Astoria. George Sweeney, proprietor of the hotel iq which Mays made his home, found the paper and he immediately communicated with the Astoria police. Mrs. Mays no longer residedin Halsey street, but she was traced and located this week.The mother and sister were guests of Mr. Sweeney at dinner and later they visited the Felter plot in Washingtonville cemetery where the youth was buried.Duane Maya came to Washing- * tonville as a small boy with two -women who conducted a tea room in the village. About the time of America’s entry into the world war, he went to live in the home of Charles Felter, where he was1 practically a member of the fam-1 ily. Very little was known in theWASHINGTONVILLE— A bullet supposed to have been fired by boys, on Saturday wounded Frank Boyle, driver for the Borden Creamery here, and knocked him from the seat of the truck he was operating. Three boys who reside near Maybrook, were picked up by Costable Michael Carroll, who is holding two of them for firing at the truck.Mr. Boyle, driving a truck to-wardr Maybrook, reveived the bullet in his shoulder. The missile, having punctured through the cab, penetrated the shoulder and emerged from the other side. Be lost considerable blood. Tile wound is painful.Mr. Boyle was passing the Moses Rowe farm when suddenly the shooting took place. Accoording to the told here, three boys standing behind a fence along the road yelled for a ride, but the driver who accompanied by John Connolly, another employe of the creamery, paid no attention. There was a report, and Mr. Boyle fell ffrom the truck. Mr. Connolly brought the machine to a halt.While Mr. Connolly ran to a nearby jfarm to summon help, Mr. Rowe came along and offered to drive the wounded man to Maybrook where Dr. Daniel Rakov administered tetanus anti-toxin and dressed the wound.FLORIDAFLORIDA—Mr. and Mrs. A.
