The members of U. S. Grant Post No. 2 of the G. A. R. and the La dies of the U. S. Grant Post Circle, assisted by Mrs.P. WH. Ragsdale, planned and carried to complete suc cess a surprise birthday dinner on Comrade P. H. Ragsdale, near the Donaldson school house, near Wash ington, Monday , it being the seven ty-fifth anniversary of his birth. Comrade Ragsdale was, by his good wife, spirited away from home in the early morning on what he was assured to be urgent business in the city, and was detained until the crowd had assembled at their beau tiful country home. On his return he noticed the hitch ing lot filled with autoombiles, bug gies and carriages, which caused him to bring into play at once his think box; and as the people began swarm ing out of the house, he was caused to remember that it was his birth day. A sumptuous dinner, most of which was provided by the Ladies of the U. S. Grant Post Circle and friends, was served to the entire fill ing up and complete satisfaction of everyone present, after which songs were sung, recitations given by Mrs. Ada Schulk, Miss Helen Ellis and W. P. (Pap) Ellis, a short address by Rev. Tolman R. Ragsdale of Carmi, Ill., a son of P. H. Ragsdale, followed by prayer by Rev. J. F. Ragsdale, of Hudsonville, Ind., a brother of P. H. Ragsdale; then a response on be half of the Post and Circle members by W. P. Ellis of this city. Comrade Ragsdale then thanked every one for their kind remem brance they had of him on this the seventy-fifth anniversary of his birth. At present declared they had had a most enjoyable time, and earn estly wished for many happy returns of his birth anniversary. The following named persons were Present: Mr. and Mrs. P. H. B. Cook, Mr and Mrs. Benjamin Hopkins, Mr. and Mrs. John Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Jo seph Swann, Baldwin Reilly, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Allison, Rev. and Mrs. W. S. Rader, Mrs. Mary Fitts, Mr and Mrs. W. P. Ellis and daughter, Miss Helen, Mrs. John Aikman, rs. Mary Reel, Mrs. Richard Summers, rs. George Sword, Mrs. Sarah Ann McCafferty, Mrs. John H. McCaffer ty, Mrs. Berry McCafferty, Mrs. J.
