Jones, who has been serving a sentence in the Scott county jail lor bootlegging In Columbus Junction, was formally released today at the request of A. G. Bush, U. S. commisioner for the Fourth district. Jones was tried and found guilty of bootlegging in the Federal court In Davenport, and be was sentenced to thirty days in the county jail and the payment of a fine o£ §500- He was unable to pay the fine and be served the thirty days1 sentence. According to the law a man who takes an oath that he is financially unable to pay the line imposed can make application for release under oath. His term expired this morning and lie made formal application for •release and he was gEven liis liberty.Jones was arrested in Columbus Junction some months ago for selling beer without a license. It appears be went to Muscatine and bought A case of beer and sold it out piece menl from a vacant bouse in Columbus Junction.
