Seven j streams were started, two from the Phoe-1 nix steamer. The first seven were like I muddy hydrant streams and rose to a | height of 12 or fifteen feet. Even the I steamer streams were light on account of I drawing water from so many places at I once. Then two high pressure streams [ i were turned oil which atonoe went to the I top of the city buildicg and amounted to I more than all the previous streams com- I bined. After that six streams were turn-1lt; ed down market and were rtiet bj7 fhree I streams from below. For a short lime | -there was a perfect deluge of water, suffi- \ . cient to drown oir, a Chicago 11 fire. It waa a fine object lesson to the I 4 insurance men in the city. Two streams {r threw water to the top of the Court House |' tower. At the conclusion of the test I' the Water Works Trustees and members 11 of Council took carriages and made an 11 inspecting tour of the new works and ll reservoir. I
