A company composed mostly of LaJunta citizens have secured possession of the franchise and the contract for its construction has been let to a large California company. The work of construction is expected to begin within a few weeks and the plant be ready for bnsiness during the coming spring or early summer. The Rocky Mountain people seemed unable to finance the proposition and as the franchise expires some time in December, they decided to get from under ami turn the deal over to someone who had the money to put it through. LaJunta Free Press. ■ #—-This inference is drawn frombreaking Bights made by the birdmun who will make his appearance hero on Saturday and Sunday Bill llcth, aviator of the Berger Aviation Co.—who on Saturday last in Denver broke the world’s record for high Hying.Following is the account of Hetli’s sensational performance with his sky-hteed taken from the Denver Post of Sunday:Across the wind-swept clouds he flew, high, high above the city’s haze. The silent thousands—silent because they feared for his life and the life of the man who rode beside him watched hirn rise and turn. Then he glided in to the sunset, and for the first time in the history of Denver an aeroplane circled the business district as a cheer went up from the great throng, who had come to see Daring Bill Heth play with the sky. .A world's altitude record for an aeroplane carrying a passenger was without a doubt shattered today,” said Jack Ber-gor.head of the Berger Aviation company, and the man who flew with Heth. An aviator and passenger have never gone higher than 6.000 feet at sea level, and Heth says we were 5.000 feet in the air this afternoon. This is the most wonderful flight ever made with a passenger. You must remember that Denver is about a mile about sea level to begin with. That we were able to rise nearly another mile above that in this altidude is simply wonderful. It was after two of the most sensational flights ever executed in the West, with ocean rolls, dip-the-dip and spirals, that Bill Heth anounced he would take Jack Berger for a joy ride about the city.”Those who pressed close to the Wright biplane throught the nervy aviator was kidding.”Come on. boss take a joy ride,” laughed Heth.Your’re on,” answered Berger, as ho clambered into the seat next to that of the pilot.Thousands craned their necks when they saw two men occupy the seat where Heth had jtst emerged from death-defying feats of skill.Fools!” said one bystander. Are we. tho?” asked Heth, who wasleaning on a support. Are we fools ormen who understand the air just as youunderstand tho roads you travel withyour machine? I guess we’ll try for thisflight, whether we are fools or not, forit will be a record. No one has ever flownabout the business district and ! gtoss it will be a long time before a biplane with a passenger will turn the trick again.
