‘The Scandinavians in Council. On Saturday night a very pronounced and enthusiastic meeting of the Republi can Scandinavians of Helena was held in the second story of Parden's block. Mr. A. M. Holter was chosen president and Mr. William Videen secretary. The meeting was attended by Swedes, Nor wegians and Danes, and was first addressed by Mr. Charles Smith, who, in a few very happy remarks, showed how the Republi can party was the true one for a Scandi navian, who came from a country of free dom, whose love of Republican principles has made her the bright star of united Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The Scandinavians, he said, would vote in har mony with the principles of Gustavus Adolphus and Charles the XID, who fought for liberty of conscience and free dom of thought, and that they would find in the Republican party the embodiment of the principles of their ancient and modern history. He complimented the Scandinavians by saying that wherever they had made a home they had by their honesty and integrity built up reputations of value for themselves and their children. He predicted the triumphant election of the true American and standard bearer, James G. Blaine, and retired amidst loud and hearty cheers. Mr. Hamerline was called upon and made an excellent speech in the Scandi navian language. Mr. N. P. Walters being called for, responded in a short but excellent speech in Swedss, and told his country men to remain true and loyal to the Re publican party. Mr. John Smith was call ed for, made a good speech, after which several songs were sung by a Scandinavian. John Sundt made a good speech on the principles and integrity of a citizen about to cast his vote in the land of his adoption, in “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” After the meeting was further addressed by Messrs. Douglas, Davis, Hedges, Holw and Kirkendall, it adjourned with diee for Republican success. WILLIAM VIDEEN, Secretary. _ Acting First Assistant Postmaster General. (Washington Star, Oct. 25th. ) The President has designated James H. Marr, the chief clerk of the First Assistant Postmaster General's office, to act as First Assistant Postmaster General for ten days longer. It is stated that Governor Crosby, of Montana, will be appointed First As sistant in place of Mr. Hatton.
