Scott, of 100 Almanar drive.,Scott arrived here October 13 Aboard the evacuation ship, General Gordon, for an extended visit With his family and relatives.It isn't that Shanghai doesn’t look good too, because as Scott says, after 24 years, It certainly was like home. He plans to return there after becoming reacquainted With ids homeland once more.OF COURSE, Scott has not spent all of his time at the Chi-city. He went there in 1926with a partner to set up the funeral home. In 1933 he becameHe made two more brief visits, one Just before, and another, just after the war.The in-between years—the war years—weren’t too pleasant. First of all, Scott and his family were put in a Japanese concentration camp where they remained twoand a half years.THERE WERE many privations at Camp Chapei where the family was interned, and the Scott business, International Funeral Directors, suffered physically under the Japanese occupation.Until March, 1943, Scott was allowed to operate his business himself without interference by theJapanese. After he was sent tocamp, a “neutral at the firm was•ole owner. Five years later he made manager. He was a German-Jewish refugee and was placed in a restricted area the following year.Then the Japanese took over, but only for two weeks, obviously without sufficient knowledge to run the only non-Chinese mortu-pet was placed in charge.After the war was over, Scott left the camp two miles from his business, and surveyed the damage.THEJAPANESE had strippedthe place of all fixtures and heat-ary in Shanghai.
