By GEORGE W. SEIDIL To the largest lyceum audience yet assembled in tabernacle this season, Jan Cherniavsky, pianist, brought the highest thrills of mu sical art last night. Especially in his delicate past Sages glissando did his extraor dinary dexterity gain highest ap preciation from a responsive aud ience. So true, so living was Cherniavsky's interpretation of Polovinkin’s “The Village by the Stream” that had it been but one of a score of numbers listed hap hazardly on program, one would have recognized it instantly. Cherniavsky takes particular delight in this technical triumph, this rapid running of the keys plissando. A lightsome bit in an unnamed encore, another from his own concluding composition car ried too this agile movement. Al ways there is that same beauty in the lighter technic, well-balanc ed, smooth. Ever-popular, Beethoven's “Moonlight Sonata” gained a wide measure of applause, the cele brated number being a delight akin to that feeling that comes with meeting an old friend. Though not a particularly outstanding in terpretation, the composition was beautifully done. Brilliant in the request num ber, “Scherzo in B Flat Minor,” by Chopin, Cherniavsky easily dis played the art of which one critic wrote of him, “Sometimes he is storming and thundering, then again charming and singing on the piano.” Through all his se lections, Cherniavsky's extraordi nary sense of rhythm, vibrant tone quality, is uppermost. His is a gift innately held, given in abund ance. Deep religious feeling, tonal depth, made one fairly live his rendition of Bach-Rummel’s mov ing “Cantana {The Son of God.) . Cherniavsky's whole being seemed’ fused into his playing, it was of him a part. Dean Herald R. Clark and Prof. John C. Swenson of Lyceum com mittee deserve many plaudits for bringing this finest of musical treats to Prova. ‘
